Talvin Singh. Sang her first Hindi film song for international superstar
A.R. Rahman in ?Dil Se?. Continued the good work with him in ?Kandukondein
Kandukondein ? ?Alaipayuthe?, ?Jodi? and ?Mudhalvan?. Has sung in Tamil
for the legendary Illayaraja in ?Hey Ram? and ?Poon Tottam?. And for other
musical Tamil superhits ?Narsimha?, ?12B?, ?Priyamanavale?, etc. Features
in a lot of Hindi soundtracks including ?Mission Kashmir?, ?Yaadein?,
?Dus?, ?Ye Kya Ho Raha Hai? and the up for release ?Saathiyan?, ?Bas
Yuhin? and ?Kuch Na Kaho?. And in a string of TV serials (including the
title track of Madhuri Dixit?s ?Kahin Na Kahin Koi Hai?). Has sung in over
11 Indian languages including Marathi, Bengali, Punjabi, Punjabi, Gujrati,
Oriya, Assamese and all the South Indian languages! Not to mention
countless commercials! Mahalakshmi learnt Hindustani Classical vocals
under the tutelage of Pt. Gautam Madhusudhan, Pt. Govind Prasada
Jaipurwale and Pt. Rattan Mohan Sharma. She also picked up the finer
nuances of singing form her mother who herself is a trained Carnatic
vocalist. Her inspirations and influences include Mehdi Hasan, Ghulam Ali,
Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle.
