Universal acquires the sequel to the 2004 film Hellboy. Hellboy 2: The Golden Army would be directed by Guillermo del Toro.

Written by del Toro and Mike Mignola, the movie was originally made by Revolution Studios via its distribution deal with Columbia Pictures. While Mike Mignola will be the co producer Chris Kenney is the executive producer.

Ron Perlman returns as Hellboy, the humanoid creature born in the flames of hell who was deposited on Earth's doorstep as an infant and battles otherworldly evil for a covert government agency.

Lawrence Gordon/Lloyd Levin production in association with Dark Horse Entertainment is planning for starting the principal photography in April 2007 in Budapest and London. The pre-production and post-production would be based in London and the film is expected for a summer 2008 release.
