The shooting began on Sunday June 1st in the Punnamada Lake with more than 90 artistes dancing along with Rajnikanth and actress Nayantara on specially decked up snake boats and houseboats.
Kuselan is the remake of Malayalam hit movie Katha Parayumbol which revolves around the life of a Barber and a Superstar.Vasu and Rajini agreed that the role of barber may not go well with the Tamil audience and the barber community may take offense on such a portrayal. The role is therefore changed to that of a bus conductor. Kuselan gives more screen space to Rajini unlike in the original movie.
